MR. FOLEY
Synthesizers have been developed to create
musical sounds, but sound engineers in the film and TV industry have to
go out and take samples of the sounds they want. Mr. Foley is a
synthesizer for sounds as well as music, something that has never
existed before. With it, a sound engineer could build any sound he
chooses--a cat's purr, the hum of a refrigerator, a tire blowout, an
explosion--giving him a power and freedom he's never had before. Mr.
Foley also works with standard film time codes, so the sounds can be
synched up with the film without having to make a second pass at the
editing.
MAGIC GLOVE
This is a VR based media control system for
lighting/audio/set control for theater and broadcast, The systems
respond to the hand motions of the operator wearing a special glove who
simply gestures at a virtual display of what he wants, rather than
forcing him to use a complicated and non-intuitive control board.
CALICO
Based on concepts pioneered in the 1960s and
almost totally forgotten today, the Calico architecture will allow a
single PC to run several different operating systems simultaneously. No
matter what operating system or software the user prefers, it can run
on a Calico. The concept of incompatible machines may become a thing of
the past.
ALL SOFTWARE SYNTHESIZER
Musical synthesizers have traditionally consisted
of software within a box that controlled it. MLS is developing an all
software version that would run on a Mac G4 with either a 16-bit
SoundBlaster card or, even better, a 24-bit Logic Audio or similar type
card. This would ship on a CD-ROM and run on any Mac using OS 8.5 or
above. (This instrument could be made Linux-compatible if desired.) The
software would import from any MIDI controller(s) desired. MLS would
also want to add features needed to use it with a QWERTY keyboard as
well.
REAL-TIME METATOOLS
There are currently no standard tools for
programmers working in real-time applications. In his 30+ years within
the field, Lynx Crowe has designed whole suites of tools that can be
marketed to this ever-increasing audience of software developers. In
addition, Lynx has invented a suite of metatools that allow users to
build other tools according to their needs.
Among other uses, these tools would help
real-time programmers do the following things:
- Analyze tasks most efficiently.
- Determine the optimal structure for a
real-time system (for example, whether to do it in assembly language
vs. C++ vs. hardwired).
- Provide a truly comprehensive testing suite
for mission-critical level testing.
